Addressing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and Toxic Stress in Rural Farmworker Communities in California
Background on Project NACES
Futures Without Violence, Lideres Campesinas, Alianza Nacional de Campesinas, and Migrant Clinicians Network are partners on Project NACES, a pilot to bring together community-based advocates and community health centers to partner and develop strategies to improve access to ACEs-related support and information for farmworkers and their families.
Through the pilot, the project partners conducted training and led conversations in farmworker communities about ACEs and toxic stress and the impact of both on health. Guided by those conversations, the partners built resources that clinics and community-based organizations can use to share information about ACEs and toxic stress with farmworkers and their families.
Through Project NACES, and with ACE education, we’ve seen how community-driven solutions can address the impact of both adult and childhood exposure to ACEs and can shape health care responses.
This pilot was funded by the UCLA/UCSF ACEs Aware Family Resilience Network (UCAAN).
