Resources For You This Month

By Moira McLaughlin, FUTURES

It will take all of us to end sexual assault.

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we want to give you – educators, parents, employers, and more – tools you need to prevent and respond to sexual assault.

Women and teen girls are most at risk but sexual assault is a widespread problem that can affect anyone at any age. More than 370 million girls and women alive today have been raped or sexually assaulted before the age of 18. Men and boys are also affected: 1 out of 10 rape victims is male.

Sexual assault is not inevitable and we all can play a role at preventing and responding to it. But what can you do? See our resources and tools below or go to our new resource library and search for what you need. This month, commit to doing the imperative work of ending sexual assault.

Educators, Parents & Teens

  • Download these safety cards in multiple languages:
  • Become part of a growing network of students, faculty and college campus leaders dedicated to inviting men into the conversation, preventing violence, and fostering respect.
  • Winning games is important to every coach but it’s not the only goal. This 12-week Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) program equips high school coaches with the tools you need to help your athletes promote positive mental health and build respectful, non-violent relationships. Join us for an upcoming virtual training.
  • Spark a conversation by watching this video encouraging men to re-think attitudes and assumptions.

Healthcare Providers

  • Learn about the overlap of sexual and domestic violence.
  • Watch this video and adopt the evidence-based “CUES” intervention (Confidentiality, Universal Education + Empowerment, and Support) to assist survivors and prevent further violence.
  • Print this Campus Guide on addressing intimate partner and sexual violence in campus health care settings.

Employers

  • Get the facts on the prevalence of sexual assault in the workplace.
  • Download our Sexual Assault Awareness Month Toolkit for resources to enhance your organization’s capacity to prevent, respond to and support workers affected by sexual assault.

Advocates

  • Join the movement and #StandWithHer. Sign this petition and tell government leaders to sustain international funding and prioritize programs that prevent and respond to violence against women and children, both domestically and internationally.

If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline: 800-656-HOPE or go to https://hotline.rainn.org/online to chat online. If you are a man who has experiences sexual abuse or assault, go to https://1in6.org/

More resources are available at our online store where providers and advocates can download safety cards, posters, and more for free, and order hard copies for the cost of shipping.

We hope you will use and share these materials. To stay updated on our work please join our email list.
